Rauði krossinn, also known as the Icelandic Red Cross, is a humanitarian organization founded on December 10, 1924, and is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It serves as the premier humanitarian agency in Iceland, playing a pioneering role in healthcare, social work, and education. The organization provides diverse domestic services, including emergency preparedness, harm reduction, psychosocial support, first aid, and assistance to refugees, often acting as an auxiliary to the Icelandic government in humanitarian matters. They undertook the "Welcome to Iceland" project to introduce Icelandic customs and values to new residents.
