The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) is an independent organization that monitors compliance with the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement in Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Its role in Iceland is to ensure that the country adheres to EEA rules, safeguarding free movement, fair competition, and state aid control. In 2024, the ESA conducted a legal search at Toska ehf., a former owner of Lyfja og heilsa, Lyfjum og heilsu, and Skel fjárfestingafélag, as part of an inquiry into potential market segmentation in the retail pharmaceutical market.
