Landsvirkjun is the National Power Company of Iceland and the country's largest electricity generator, producing over 70% of Iceland's electricity. It is state-owned and generates electricity exclusively from 100% renewable sources, including hydropower, geothermal energy, and wind. Landsvirkjun operates 21 power plants across five main operational areas in Iceland, including 15 hydropower stations, three geothermal power stations, and two wind turbines for research purposes. The company plays a crucial role in Iceland's energy sector, providing electricity for heavy industry and local providers, and aims to maximize the value of Iceland's renewable energy resources sustainably.
