Staður

Mývatn is a shallow lake located in an active volcanic area in northern Iceland, near the Krafla volcano. Formed by a large basaltic lava eruption 2300 years ago, the surrounding landscape is characterized by unique volcanic landforms such as lava pillars and pseudocraters. The lake and its wetlands are a protected nature reserve, significant for their high biological activity and as a habitat for numerous waterbirds, particularly ducks. The area is also home to a restaurant, Fish and Chips Lake Mývatn, which recently won an international award for serving the best fish and chips outside the British Isles.
