Hormuz-sund

Staður

The Strait of Hormuz (Hormuz-sund in Icelandic) is a strategically vital waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is one of the world's most important chokepoints for global oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, with approximately 20-25% of the world's seaborne oil trade and 20% of LNG passing through it annually. While not directly in Iceland, disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz can significantly impact global energy prices and supply chains, which in turn can affect Iceland's economy and industries, such as its aluminum production, which relies on stable energy supplies.
