Skaftafell is a preservation area located in southeast Iceland, within the larger Vatnajökull National Park. It is renowned for its diverse landscapes, including glaciers, waterfalls like Svartifoss, and extensive hiking trails, making it a significant destination for outdoor activities and tourism in Iceland. The area was originally established as Skaftafell National Park in 1967 before becoming part of Vatnajökull National Park in 2008, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019.
