MAST, also known as the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority, is an inspection and administrative body in Iceland. Established on January 1, 2008, it serves as the Competent Authority in areas such as food safety, animal health and welfare, control of feed, seed, fertilizers, plant health, and water for human consumption. MAST is responsible to the Ministry for Fisheries and Agriculture and plays a crucial role in enforcing legislation and providing services to various sectors in Iceland. The Althingi Ombudsman recently concluded an examination into MAST's oversight of blood-mare farming and found no reason to criticize the agency's practices.
