Umboðsmaður Alþingis, also known as the Parliamentary Ombudsman of Iceland, is an independent organization elected by the Althingi (the Icelandic Parliament) to oversee the administration of state and local authorities. Its primary role is to safeguard the rights of citizens against the authorities and ensure that public administration adheres to the law and good administrative practices. The Ombudsman investigates complaints from individuals and legal entities, and can also initiate investigations into systemic issues within the administration.
